Is it advisable to keep Tom Brady Rule?
NFL rules prohibit a pass rusher from "forcibly hitting in the knee area or below a passer who has one or both feet on the ground." A clarification issued this season by the league's competition committee prohibits a defender on the ground who hasn't been blocked or fouled into the quarterback from lunging or diving at his lower legs. This is so-called "Tom Brady Rule".
Let's review two cases of 2009. One is the NFL fined Titans defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch $5,000 for a low hit against Colts quarterback Peyton Manning last Sunday night. Another one is Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs who drew a controversial roughing the passer penalty last weekend after making contract with Patriots QB Tom Brady, says he won't alter his aggressive pass-rushing style. Both Vanden Bosch and Terrell Suggs are very unhappy with the call.
As far as I'm concerned, it it necessary to set up and strengthen the Tom Brady Rule in that competitiveness and aggression tend to be a major part of NFL sport. NFL committee should take efficient measures to protect these athletes. As we know, once the athletes got fatal injuries, they may end their NFL life forever. There are a lot of players have paid dearly for victory. We can often hear news of some players got injuried today. They are very hard-working and bring so many joys to us audience. What we can do is let them have guarantee safety on the field.
I have no idea how the guys who hurts others think. Maybe they will understand when others hurt them.
